The Flint & Genesee Group is driven by a passionate team, working to position Genesee County as a top-five community in Michigan based on jobs, talent, livability, and equity by 2040. We want to create a place that offers high-value amenities and services, where talented and skilled people want to be, and businesses and entrepreneurs want to locate and grow. This convergence is key to a vibrant and prosperous economy for all. As such, the Group’s divisions work together to develop business, talent, and place, and made a significant impact in 2023 thanks to their internal collaboration and connection.

In 2023, the Group took several steps to be more intentional in our efforts. For example, to guide our work as a data-driven organization, we added research capacity to our team by hiring a business intelligence analyst (and former Flintern!). This addition has allowed us to better understand our community’s needs and challenges and develop strategies that can maximize our impact.
We share our vision with the Forward Together economic vitality plan. Learn more at ForwardTogetherGenesee.org.
In July, our staff completed a third-party survey measuring different aspects of workplace culture. The results of this survey earned the Flint & Genesee Group a Top Workplaces 2023 honor from the Detroit Free Press. More importantly, we began to disseminate the findings to develop a plan for continued growth and improvement in 2024.
Additionally, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) remained a priority through internal Employee Resource Groups and external efforts including the Flint & Genesee Business Bridge and African American Advisory Committee. A new quarterly Diversity in the Workplace training series was well attended by local organizations, helping to solidify a foundation that we can build upon. In addition, the Group received an honorable mention in Ragan’s 2023 CSR & Diversity Awards in the category of DEI Commitment – a distinction also held by major brands including Mastercard, Vera Bradley, and Mars Food – in recognition of our work to promote, support, and foster diversity as part of corporate culture.
By year’s end, our organization had successfully wrapped up our 2020-23 Strategic Plan, with plans for the next three-year plan ready for implementation.
The organization’s new Strategic Plan was published in September 2023. Learn more about the Flint & Genesee Group’s strategic priorities for the next three years in the 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.
